AUDYSSEY- A GUIDED QUEST FOR PEOPLE ON THE AUTISM SPECTRUM

According to Austim Speaks, an organization that promotes autism awareness, Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and autism are both general terms for a group of complex disorders of brain development. These disorders are characterized, in varying degrees, by difficulties in social interaction, verbal and nonverbal communication and repetitive behaviors.

Thanks to the collaborative efforts of community members along with MDS as coordinating agency, Audyssey is a new assessment and service option for individuals with autism and their families. Children and adults facing the challenges of autism can benefit from individualized intervention and support services. We offer guidance and assistance to help individuals with autism and their families learn the issues related to autism and learn new skills for communicating, problem solving, social integration and coping. Each individual is unique and our approach is customized to the person. We offer a multi-service model and referral to other providers based on achieving the best outcome.

Audyssey is using a multi-disciplinary approach, combining psychologists, board certified behavior analyst, occupational and speech-language therapy, as well as medical professionals. Assessment is through MDS and our personnel and independent contractors. Services are available through collaboration with other agencies in the community. Vocational, residential, leisure, and social options are available. Group and individual therapy in the areas of occupational, speech-language and behavior are offered.

Social integration can be a significant barrier for people with autism. Audyssey's services for adults includes a very specific approach to meeting and beating the challenges with socialization. Social Thinking groups led by Joan and Bob Anderson and Patti Hoffman offer information on social communication skills enhancement through social thinking, as well as networking and opportunities for relationship building. For more information on this specific service, please contact Deb English at 256-8656

The Audyssey program may be covered by Medicaid and most insurance plans, in addition we offer private pay and sliding scale options.
